I feel like technology has taken over our lives. I’m sure you’ve seen those photos of parents and their children sitting on the couch with a HUGE phone in between them. The kids are playing and the parents are looking at the phone, conveying the idea that we as parents can sometimes get too involved in our own technology and/or social media and that we miss out on what is really important… the child. Clearly technology is a major part of my life, I share my ideas, recipes and stories here with you all and I’m a publisher for Macaroni Kid, so needless to say, it takes a big gulp out of my time.
Something that I’m trying to get better at is having less technology and more one-on-one time with the family. At least once a week I want to strive to gain that important time with my little one. Playing board games is a great way to have fun while spending time with the ones you love. I’m notorious for getting board games at the thrift shop and have enjoyed playing them with my son, but there is only so much ‘Don’t Wake Daddy’ and ‘Scrabble’ one can take within a certain amount of time. So I decided to make our own games.

Who doesn’t love BINGO. I took the idea and made it with Lego Super Heroes, two things my son LOVES! We played three times last night, each game taking turns on who “called” the Super Heroes. I made sure I put the names of our friendly (and not so friendly) Lego friends in case someone didn’t recognize them.
When the winners wins, make sure you yell out LEGO, because it only seems right with the circumstances, right?!
I’m upset that I didn’t make this sooner. My son’s birthday that just past was Lego themed and this would have been a great addition to the party. Needless to say that it would be a great party addition for you too! And guess what? It can!! Below is a **FREE** printable with 10 cards, the call cards and tokens to place on your LEGO card. Click the photo and it will take you to the printable.
We took turns who would pull the Super Hero to be called. I just threw them in a cup and pulled one out. It was fun and I promised that we would play again in a couple days. I’m actually thinking of making Wednesdays, ‘Wireless Wednesday’ and making it a mandatory to be a no technology zone. I don’t think my little video gamer would mind. I mean, look at that face!
So what things do you all do with the family that doesn’t involve technology?
