Reno gambling properties have had a slightly different growth and history from those of Las Vegas. You may recognize the Sands sign and logo on top of the building but this hotel is not owned by the Sands Corporation; up until late 2012 it had belonged to Affinity Gaming, formerly Herbst Gaming, owner of the Terribles family of casinos. In 2012 the Reno-area company Truckee Gaming purchased the Sands Regency along with 2 other Nevada hotels. So as it was when it first opened, the hotel is again in local hands.
Sands Regency is in the downtown heart of Reno, and is one of the most popular casinos of the city. Inside its yellow and red building the gambler will find — besides over 600 slots — blackjack, craps, Let It Ride, Pai Gow, Pai Gow Poker, tables of live poker, sports book, and bingo in a 200-seat hall that offers 6 game sessions a day. Blackjack fans will be glad to find that they offer $3 blackjack here Sunday thru Thursday.
The hotel welcomes pets. The amenities are quite extensive, including a health club on the top floor which offers massage; there is a full-service hair salon, pool. Because of immediate area skiing and other attractions you can even rent skis, snowboards or bikes. There are 2 bars, the Pipeline Lounge which is open 24 hrs, and the 3rd Street Lounge.
